GAME REPORTS | JUNIOR VARSITY

MARCH 4-6
The JV Baseball team took on some stiff competition this past weekend at the Ennis Lions Tournament.

MHS 8, Bryan Adams 0: In the first game, Matt McDonald and Daniel Rushing threw the baseball great by striking out 9 in 6 innings. The offensive onslaught was dominated by Bryant Engle and Austin Saye, leading to a 8-0 opening round win.

MHS 6, Corsicana 5: In the second game, the Panthers took on a pesky Corsicana team. Grant Freels started them game but fell victim to an ugly strike zone. After finishing two innings the Panthers were ahead 3-2. JD Pruitt came in relief in the third and pitched well, closing the door on the Tigers. Tanner Gaddy let the way with two hits and Kyle Rinehart did a great job working counts and picking up an RBI.

MHS 9, Forney 1: Finally the tournament came to a head, with the Panthers facing the Forney Jackrabbits in a winner-take-all showdown. Forney had beaten up on Waxahachie and Red Oak to get to the championship. With Tyler Colburn on the bump and the sticks finally heating up, the Panthers won the championship in run-rule fashion with a 9-1. Colburn pitched a great game facing only one more batter then the minimum and striking out 10 of 16 batters.

Tanner Gaddy, Hunter Hipsman, Tyler Colburn, and Daniel Rushing were selected All Tournament team players. The MVP was given to all the guys on the team who may not have started every game but contributed in many ways to make our TEAM successful. I invite you to come watch these young men as they mold from young men into one cohesive team. There is a very bright future for Midlothian Baseball.

MHS 2, Red Oak 5: The JV team continued its rough start to the season by dropping Game 2 of the Waxahachie tournament 5-2 to the Red Oak Hawks. Grant Freels did a great job on the bump and Bryant Engle followed him up with a superb effort. Things just arent quite in sync with the Panthers yet, but we look to rebound against Cedar Hill Saturday morning in Waxahachie. — SR

MHS 2, Mes.Poteet 2: The JV took the field in Game 1 of the Waxahachie tournament.  Tyler Colburn threw the dog snot out of the baseball and left the game with it tied 1-1.  Great defensive efforts by Justin Gilley and Grant Freels kept the pesky Mesquite Poteet runners at bay.  In the bottom of the 4th inning, Sawyer Golden picked up a clutch hit to thrust the Panthers into the lead 2-1.  Unfortunately, due to time limits, the game ended in a tie.  The JV squad looks to get on the winning track in Game 2 tomorrow back in Hachie. — Sam Riley
