MHS 15, ROYCE CITY 2:The Varsity began the Mesquite ISD Tournament today as they opened up with the Royce City Bulldogs. The Panther bats came to life today as they pounded out 15 hits, highlighted by a Bryan Dupont 2-run homer and a Kyler Brown grand slam. Devin Rogers pitched a complete game, allowing only 1 earned run on 5 hits. The Panthers continue tomorrow with North Mesquite at noon.

MHS 4, SGP 3: The Varisty Panther Baseball team opened the 2010 season in Weatherford on Thursday, playing South Grand Prairie and Weatherford. The Panthers opened up with future district foe South Grand Prairie. Jake Baer had an outstanding pitching performance for the Panthers, going 5 innings, allowing no hits and striking out 4. Blake Lunday had a huge two-out double that drove in two runs to put the Panthers ahead in the first inning. Colton Seeton came into the game in the sixth inning and shut down the Warriors. In the seventh inning, South Grand Prairie strung some hits together and a couple of untimely errors allowed them to score three runs. The Panthers entered the bottom half of the seventh trailing 3-2. Cody Cain reached first base on an error and Zach Walker singled to left and a throwing error allowed Cody Cain to score. With two outs in the seventh inning of a tie game, Connor Roberts singled home the winning run for a 4-3 Panther victory.
MHS 3, Weatherford 7: In Game 2, the Panthers took on the Weatherford Kangaroos. The Panthers struggled to get the bats going while Weatherford had no hesitations. The Kangaroos jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The Panthers would rally though scoring one in the second and two in the fourth. In the end however, the Kangaroos had too much of a lead as they defeated the Panthers 7-3. The Panthers will continue at Azle tomorrow as they take on the hometown Hornets (at 10:30am) and Sherman (at 1pm). — Ryan Rodgers
